Steven's "So In Awe" Birth Companion Story
This is you with the awesome Dr who brought you into the world. And I guess now would be the best time for me to tell you about your birthing story before I start forgetting the details.
You were very gentle to your mummy while you were in her womb. So much so that mummy never really felt any surges - and on your 39th week checkup, we were shocked to find that mummy was already 4cm dilated. But since mummy couldn't feel any surges that was already 4mins apart, we went home. This was on a Thursday.
One day before your full term of 40 weeks, early Monday morning 2am, you decided it was time. Surges were strong, and mummy felt like beraking - which she did. We wondered for a while if it was because of the Kelantanese food we had for lunch, because I was camped in the toilet too! But mummy was sure you were ready to meet us.
We reached the hospital at 3am. Mummy was focused on all the techniques we learnt in hypnobirthing, as we wanted to bring you to the world as natural as we possibly can. This is when your mummy became superwoman, and it is at this point I realise, that your mummy will always be stronger than me.

It's 4am now and mummy is trying to breathe you out. Surges are now very intense, but I kept cheering mummy on and reminding her that every surge brings you closer to us. Other techniques like light touch massage was useful, but what really helped mummy, were hugs. Your mummy loves hugs, and I decided beforehand that I would hug her throughout the entire time - which wasn't exactly a great idea judging from my weak lower back!
It's 730am now. Mummy has tried the natural way of breathing you out. Mummy has tried pushing you out. But your humongous lil head just wouldn't slip through the final ring. At this point it was clear everyone was feeling a bit tired, more so for mummy. She had very little sleep and has been in labor for over 4 hours now. After a few more tries, I decided that mummy needed assistance before she loses more energy. Dr and I agreed to use a vacuum to help pull you out.
Soon, at 804am 6 June 2016, you were born. Snugly on mummy's chest now, you very quickly started latching. Mummy was so beautiful transforming into a mother, in front of my eyes. As for me, I always had to remind myself to be careful not to break your tiny lil frame.
All in all, it was a wonderful birthing experience - thanks to Dr Nicholas for accommodating our requests, and Bee Ting for your super HypnoBirthing (The Mongan Method) classes (we need a pic together too!).
