Stella's Incredible Breech + VBAC Drugfree HypnoBirth
Natural birth is always in in my mind during my second pregnancy as I have gone a nightmare during my 1st pregnancy. Emergency transfer from labour room to operating theatre with total body anaesthesia and delivered my 1st baby girl without notice.
Whenever we visit the doctor to check on the baby’s constipation problem, the doctor will always say that caesarean baby normally have this problem. I will start asking myself why can’t I give her a natural birth?

May 2016, I am pregnant again. Having a natural birth is my aim. After my 1st and 2nd visit with a private doctor, I decided not to continue consulting him anymore. I doubt the doctor can help me on natural delivery. My doctor left me when I was waiting for labour. So this round I only went to KKM (Klinik Kesihatan) for checkup as I believe the government hospital would promote natural birth more than private doctor.
Luckily, I saw Hypnobirthing ads about birth without pain and registered to attend the sharing session at BMS, Sunway. Before the session, I was really clueless how to do natural birth for my 2nd baby even though I have delivered a baby before. What is birth without pain? How could it be? What can I do?
Wai Han is the speaker of the day, she explained on the birthing process, how our muscles works during delivery and relaxing script. So I discussed with my husband and babysitter to take care my daughter and we started our class with Bee Ting in July 2015.
After the classes, every night after I put my daughter to sleep, I will play rainbow relaxation CD and we start to understand why we failed to have natural birth for our first baby. So now, we think we are well prepared for 2nd delivery and I start to look for private doctors which can help me for natural birth around my area. Bee Ting also help me to look for the doctor that are experienced in HypnoBirthing.
During my 28th weeks visit, when we are about to confirm the private doctor for delivery, the doctor told me that my baby is a breech baby. The hospital’s Standard Operating Procedure for breech baby is caesarian delivery especially I have done caesarian before. The doctor advised me to wait for another month if baby didn’t turn then we need to schedule for caesarian. My mum also told me to go for caesarian if the baby’s head didn’t turn, but I ignore the sentence, I believe in my baby.
Bee Ting advised me to communicate with baby every day and see if there’s any improvement. Unfortunately, week 33 baby prefer to remain his position as it is, but I still didn’t give up on natural birth. I text Bee Ting again on this and Bee Ting recommend me to go to visit Dr Tan Ee Ping. Dr Tan has experience in delivering breech baby but my case is VBAC and breech baby. Bee Ting also advised me to meet her once, so she can go through a hypnosis breech turn script with me again to help on my delivery. I really greatly appreciate her help. After the session, I am relaxed. I stop looking for doctor but instead I signed the agreement letter for natural birth with Dr Tan and waited for my baby to come.
Day 20, January 2016 @ 4am, I started to feel surges, I wake up and start to do ironing and clear my house chores. At 6.30am, my husband wake up and I told him about my surges. The surges is not frequent and manageable so we bring daughter to babysitter’s house together before I go to work as usual. I want to keep myself busy and forget about the surges.
At 9am, I noticed birth show and surges are more frequent. At 1.30pm, my husband called me during lunch to understand my condition, and in consideration of the distance to hospital and traffic jam, he advised me to start packing my stuff and return home for bath. At 5pm, we start going to hospital and admitted at 7pm.
The doctor allowed me and my husband to have dinner outside but the surges is more frequent so I asked to go back and rest at the hospital. I sleep around 9.30pm, surges wakes me up around 11.30pm, every time there’s surges, my left leg will cramp, and my husband will massage for me. Pity him didn’t sleep for the whole night. I continue sleep, wake up, massage, sleep, wake up, massage until 3am and I couldn’t sleep anymore and the water bag still hasn’t burst.
My husband suggests me to go for bath and relax. I’m a bit reluctant to move but the nurse also recommend the same so I slowly walk to the bathroom and bathe about 15mins. The water bag burst when I was on the way back to the labour room, the nurse quickly ask me to go back and rest on my bed. Surges is getting more frequent, my husband keep on remind me baby is coming, baby is coming soon. Even surges is more frequent but I can rest about 5mins after every surges compared to my 1st experience when I had an induction.
Finally, reached 10cm opening, the nurse asked me to change position lean on my husband’s shoulder and imagine I can really feel the rose bud opening!!! I can feel the surges coming, have to push hard but not the pain feeling.
When the opening is about 50cents size, the doctor asked me to change position again as baby is coming out and he is a breech baby, I need to lay down and push him out as fast as I can. I start to use J breathing (a breathing technique learnt in HypnoBirthing class) and the nurse reminded me to drink a bit of water after each breath to avoid sore throat afterwards. My husband definitely is the person who keep on serving me with water after every breathe. Lol.
Another hour+, my VBAC and breech baby is delivered, although with a small cut as I couldn’t breathe out the baby’s head in one surge, the doctor also has granted me three surges, end up the doctor couldn’t take any risk, need to bring the baby out to avoid suffocation.
Now I am proud to tell everyone that my baby is healthy, natural deliver without epidural, VBAC and breech. My dream came true.
