The Birth Of Our Baby: Chuo Khai
By: ISABELLE CHEW AI SIM · THURSDAY, 24 DECEMBER 2015
When we knew that we are pregnant, we are thrilled with JOY and of coz the fear of “A LOT OF THINGS” hehe…. Especially the fear of birth and of cause “DA PAIN” that everyone has told me about!!! Thanks to all the Horror Birth Stories and I’M WORRIED. Then came this very good friend of mine, Daphne, she told me about Hypnobirthing…. About gentle birth… PAINLESS birth!!! I remember asking her “U SERIOUS??? NO PAIN???“ From then I started to go online a lot to find out what is this Hypnobirthing thingy. How can a woman give birth without pain? And talking about in control?? About gentle birth? Not to drug your baby, delayed cord clamping, episiotomy, skin to skin…. What on earth is all that??? I have no idea……. AT ALLLLLL…….

And talking about in control?? About gentle birth? Not to drug your baby, delayed cord clamping, episiotomy, skin to skin…. What on earth is all that??? I have no idea……. AT ALLLLLL…….
Then one day when I was talking to my ex colleague and he suddenly ask me if I know anything about Hypnobirthing and I was like… harr… u knew??? And faith brings us and Bee Ting Ng (My Hypnobirthing educator) together… I called her and I told her about the little things I knew and my fear and I wanna know more on how can this help me in my birth and of coz the 101 questions that has been swimming in my brain. I enrolled myself and Derek into BeeTing’s class, went to collect the Rainbow Relaxation CD and the book before the class even started. I listened to the CD every night. Okay… I wanna confess I didn’t finish reading the book…. And not long after that the long awaited class started…..
The 5-days class really does help us a lot…. BeeTing “Da Guru” with so much birthing knowledge is very patient and funny at times especially when she’s explaining about the breathing and the toilet and poo!! We finally know what the best is for our baby, we learnt about ‘The Birth Plan’, ‘The Birth Positions’, and our curiosity about how Hypnobirthing help can in the birth of our baby are answered! Of coz we get to watch a lot of calm and gentle birthing videos and…. Da soft touch massage that I never like coz it’s so ticklish actually helps me so much during my birth!!! Thank God Derek remembers all the moves…. Haha…. Also, through this awesome class, we were introduced to midwifes from Hospital Wanita Metro Klang, Nurse Chong (Khai In) and Sister Wong. Then, we got to know Doctor Elizabeth from the same hospital; who went through the same course and she knows what a Hypnobirthing parents wants…. We stick to her since the 1st check-up. Doctor Elizabeth answer all our questions with so much patience and care…. We’ve got a few not so pleasant check-up with some other doctors from other hospital and we are so blessed that we found Doctor Elizabeth. Oh… she is such a nice lady!!
“I’ve gained so much knowledge learning about birth, I forgot about the fear and the pain. What left is wanting the best for our baby. “
Derek and I have got some annual leaves and we decided to clear them once and for all until the end of 2015 and of coz for the birth of our baby. We were told that my EDD will fall somewhere on December 28th, hence we have planned our leaves to start on December 9th and have plent of time to walk around town taking pictures of Christmas tree; do some last minutes shopping, eat all the delicious food, etc… BUT baby Khai can’t wait any longer……….. =.=
9 December 2015
We got up early, excited to start our longgggggg holiday hehe… but when I went to the toilet that morning I saw some blood-tinged mucus. I don’t feel any surges or anything funny. We had breakfast and headed to Doctor Eli for our weekly check-up. Doc told us not to worry as I was not in labour yet. So we went shopping, some eating, some walking and went back to rest as I feel a bit tired… at night about 10:30pm I feel a bit heavy on my lower back and again blood show, this time a bit more compared to the one in the morning but Derek told me to catch some sleep in case baby really decided to come early….. So I did…..
10 December 2015, 1:30am
Wookay….. I woke up feeling the surges but they weren’t strong so I continue to sleep as Derek again said “catch some sleep darling” and so I did…. I woke up every now and then feeling like a period cramp but then I managed to get back to sleep…

I woke up feeling the surges, told Derek why not we go to the hospital now as I feel the surges getting stronger. So I called the hospital asking for Doc Eli but was told Doc was sick… I was like ‘what the…. Doc is sick? Not gonna be on call?’ I look at my husband feeling lost. I sent Nurse Chong a message telling her my condition and ask for Doc Eli. She said she will call her for me and advised me to go to the hospital soon. Thank God she was on morning shift that day.

We are at the hospital, not long after that the friendly nurses checked me and I saw Chong!! She came and tell me not to worry and Doc Eli will come in soon…. Ahhhh…. What a relief!! The private rooms were all taken up that day and they could only put me outside on a bed and told me if somebody discharges then they would transfer us to a room. I had the breakfast the hospital served, some bread and milo….. Shortly after that, Chong came and led us into a labour room, there I got to sit on the birth ball and it really helped…. Surges came and go and I’ve lost count on how many mins or how many hours have pass…. Chong and Derek reminded me to do the surge breathing and visualize the balloon and the crowning rose…. The nurses were checking on my progress regularly. Doc Eli came to check on us at about 8:45am to see if we are doing okay….Even Sister Wong made a stop at the labour room and said ’Hi‘. During the whole time, Derek performed the light touch massage on me and the Rainbow Relaxation was playing repeatedly in the background… I was moving around the room, sitting and rotating on the birth ball and squatting, etc. However, I was thrown off the rhythm as I experienced acid reflux attacks….. This made me vomit and I felt restless and tired….. At about 11am, the nurses transferred me to another delivery room that is more comfortable…. I continued to sit and rotate on the ball…. When the surges became stronger, I laid on the bed to catch some rest.

At about 1pm Doc came and she did a VE and told me I was FULLY DIALATED!!! YAY!!! That meant we get to see our baby very soon….. However, by then I was already exhausted. Doc Eli suggested that I get some glucose drip and so I did…. I could hear Derek telling me to do the J breathing…. To encourage me, I could hear them telling me that they could already see the baby’s hair and how close it was for the baby to join us… in the middle of all the breathing my acid reflux struck again…. I was having difficulty to focus and it affected my surge breathings as I experienced burning sensation in my stomach and I could not hold and channelled the energy down properly... I tried to hold the breath as much as I can and I tried and I tried…. And I hear Chong, Derek and the Doc’s cheer….. Telling me that the baby’s gonna come soon…. Just one more breathe… one more….. then I was so tired and I saw Doc’s face telling me this is where the baby’s head is (poking on where the head is) and it’s only this close (poking on where the exit is) I kept telling myself I have come so far and its only that close I don’t wanna drug my baby so no pain killers, no gas, no epidural (oh fyi this hospital dun provide epidural hehe) and no c-sec!!! I gathered all my strength and gave one last breath and I can feel something gushing out… it happened so quickly and the next thing I knew, our baby was placed on my chest…. Oh god!!! Our eyes meet for the 1st time… oh yes his eyes are wide open, he has so much hair! You could feel the instant bonding and I was so much in love…. No words can describe this wonderful feeling, and I just know it’s the best feeling I have ever felt. I will always remember that awesome feeling. We have the delayed cord clamping, proud papa had the honours to cut the cord!! The skin to skin…. While waiting for baby’s best friend ‘Le Placenta’ to come out…. And I remember someone ask me if our baby is a girl or a boy haha… and I checked him twice and said “it’s a BOY!!”
