Have a chat with your doctor or midwife during your antenatal checkups to know if they are supportive of natural birth is a great idea if that's what you are planning. Here are a few questions that you may want to consider asking:
- What is your experience in natural childbirth? What percentage of the mothers you attend to have a natural birth?
- What type of natural pain management options do you offer for natural childbirth?
- Do you have any experience or familiarity with the birth plans I have outlined?
- Do you encourage or discourage specific practices that are associated with natural childbirth?
- What is your philosophy on natural childbirth?
- Do you routinely induce or artificially rupture the water bag?
- How long are you willing to wait for me to labour naturally in the absence of medical indications?
- Can I choose my own labour and birth positions which is more comfortable for me?
- What is your Cesarean section (C-sec) rate?
- Do you routinely perform episiotomy?
